Funeral services for Donald R. Olsen age 95 of Omaha, NE will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point, NE with Pastor Priscilla Hukki officiating. Lunch will follow in the church fellowship hall with interment and military honors at the Wisner Cemetery after lunch. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE and one hour prior to the service at the church. The family suggests memorials be directed to: Grace Lutheran Church Quilters, The Arbor Day Foundation, or American Veterans Park, West Point.
Don passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE.
Donald Raymond Olsen was born to James and Lorena (Eastberg) Olsen on January 1, 1928 in West Point, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. He attended West Point Public School and graduated from West Point High School in 1946. Don went to work for the railroad before enlisting in the United States Army on January 7, 1947. He was honorably discharged on June 22, 1948.
On September 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Darlene Woldt at Grace Lutheran Church, they had three sons. Don was employed at Olsen Lockers in Oakland. He later purchased the Lyons Locker and also started the first Drive-Inn in Lyons. Don was later employed at Nelson Jack and Jill in Oakland and after moving to West Point, he worked for Diers Farm Supply and Bomgaars.
Don was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, was a member of Oakland Fire Department, a charter member of the Oakland Jaycees. In Lyons, Don was a member of the Lyons Fire Department, served two terms on the church council of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons. He was also a member of the Oakland Golf Club. Don enjoyed golfing, and taking trips to Branson, Las Vegas, California, and Arizona.
Survivors include his son Larry and Sarah Olsen of Elkhorn, NE and family; Jeffrey (Dina) Olsen and family Daemion, Evan Bellamy, Michael Overfield (Faith) and Andrew; Kristopher Olsen and family-Eva and daughter Ameya; Hannah and children Paisley, Scotty & Isabella; Bradley and children Brentley & Wynter; Shawn; and Jessica Raymond Olsen (fiancée Kelly Fulton) and family-Makenzie and daughter-Tinsley; Ryleigh, Jameson, Wesley, and Makenzie
Son-Greg Olsen and Tracey Halvorson of Omaha, NE and family; Katrina Kilgas (William Woodward) and family-Kamryn, Korben, Clara, Trevor, Chloe & Cami Trenton (Krystle) Olsen; Grant Olsen (fiancée Sydney Keckeler); Andrew (Emma) Halvorson and family-Marlowe and Nellie; Daughter-in-law-Cheryl (Kevin) Ross of Lenexa, KS and son Aaron Olsen.
Nieces and nephews also survive him.
Don was preceded in death by his parents-James and Lorena Olsen, wife-Darlene Olsen, son-Kevin Olsen, and siblings-Dorothy Becker, Melvin Olsen, and Betty Douglas.
