Joey Lee Updike was born to Stewart “Joe” Kindler and Deborah Updike on Dec.7, 1988. He passed away on Dec. 25, 2022, after suffering a severe stroke in November.
Joey was later adopted by his grandparents, Donald and Helen Updike. Joey attended both elementary and high school at Lyons Decatur Northeast graduating in 2007.
After high school, Joey enjoyed spending his time with friends and family. Joey had a love of music and enjoyed many concerts through the years. He spent time playing video games where he made friends from around the world. More recently Joey enjoyed going golfing with his friends. Taking his dog, Ellie, for walks, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Joey may have never had a family of his own, however, Joey has many children who adore and love him and will always cherish their memories and love for him.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Survivors include his brother, Talon Trice of Sioux City, Iowa; his sister, Ashley (David) of Lyons; uncle, Duane Updike of Greenfield, Iowa; aunt, Susan Kindler of Blair; nieces: Alexia & Keira of Lyons; nephew, David Schild Jr. of Lyons; As well as many close friends.
Celebration of Life, Tuesday, Ja. 3, 2023, 5 to 7 p.m.; at 7 p.m. there will be a time to share stories at Pelan Funeral Services Lyons.
Internment at Tekamah Cemetery in Tekamah, and additional Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
Memorials directed to the family for future designation.
