The regular monthly meeting of the Oakland Heights Board convened in open and public session on July 20, 2021, at 4:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at Oakland Heights. Notice of the meeting was made public in advance thereof by posting notice in three places, one of the designated methods for giving advance notice. The meeting was called to order by President, Judy Schernikau. Present were Randy Johnson, Kathy Rennerfeldt, and Dan Tanksley, Jr. Sally Olson, secretary was absent. Also in attendance were Administrator David Deemer, Director of Nursing Christina Arnold, and Business Office Manager Karen Nelson. Minutes of the June 9, 2021 meeting were approved as distributed. Administrator David Deemer was asked to present business items. With the local hospital closing residents are now being transported to West Point. The impact of the closing is likely to impact the facility financially as well. Ryan Wolken has purchased Johnson Rehabilitation, effective July 12, 2021 and will service Oakland Heights for their therapy needs. Chris Johnson will still be involved over the next several months through the transition. The Accounts Receivable aging report was reviewed. Kathy Rennerfeldt made a motion to increase room rates for Oakland Heights Nursing Home by $10.00 per day. Dan Tanksley, Jr seconded. Motion carried. These rates remain competitive with those in the area and was necessary due to the increased costs across the board due to COVID-19 and other expenses associated with it. Kathy Rennerfeldt made a motion to increase hourly wages and salaries by 3%, effective August 15, 2021, to all those employed on this date. Randy Johnson seconded. Motion carried. Dan Tanksley Jr., made a motion to provide a $0.25 per hour paid from March 1, 2021 through June 30, 2021 to all employees in good standing as of July 20, 2021. Kathy Rennerfeldt seconded. Motion carried. The budget was introduced to the Board. David will make the necessary changes to reflect the staff raises and present the final FY 2021-2022 budget at the August Board of Directors meeting. Christina Arnold reported that the COVID-19 positivity rate in Burt County is rising and we are now in a yellow zone. Unvaccinated staff is now being tested one time a week per the requirements of CMS. Visitation remains the same at this time but is subject to change if we continue to rise in positive cases in our county. Oakland Heights census is 41, with one bed available. Assisted Living census is 19 with 3 units available. There are openings for a full-time nurse aide or medication aide for evening and night shifts, a part-time medication aide for assisted living and openings for dietary aides and cooks. Kaylee Magill has assumed the role of MDS Coordinator and started on July 19, 2021. Teresa Pounds has accepted the role of AL Supervisor and night shift nurse. She will start on August 2, 2021. Incident summaries were reviewed and financials were distributed. Dan Tanksley, Jr. made a motion to pay warrants submitted; Randy Johnson seconded. Motion carried.
