The regular monthly meeting of the Oakland Heights Board of Directors convened in open and public session on March 27, 2024 in the Oakland Heights Conference Room. Notice of the meeting was made public in advance thereof by posting notice in three places, one of the designated methods for giving advance notice. The meeting was called to order by Judy Schernikau, Board President at 8:31am. A quorum was established with the presence of Rosa Schmidt, Kathy Rennerfeldt and Daniel Tanksley, Jr. Randy Johnson was absent and excused. Also present was Administrator David Deemer. Minutes of the February 21, 2024 meeting were approved as distributed. Administrator David Deemer was asked to present and lead discussion of agenda items for the day. The Board of Directors were updated on any ongoing risk/liability concerns of Oakland Heights. It was decided that last minute agenda items can be added to board of director discussions after monthly agenda items are printed due to timeliness of board information and scheduled meeting dates. The Assisted Living renewal application was filled out and submitted for facility license. Roger Huber returned to Oakland Heights and will work on Wednesday’s to assist maintenance duties. Updated policies on Communicable Diseases were presented to the Board for review. A motion was offered by Rosa Schmidt with a second from Kathy Rennerfeldt to approve policies as presented. On roll call all ayes no nays motion carried. Nebraska legislature is debating LB492 which would potentially increase the overall Medicaid reimbursement starting as early as July 1, 2024. Room rate increases for skilled care and assisted living residents was presented to the board for review. Administrator David Deemer will compare rates of surrounding facilities and report to the board before increases are finalized. Oakland Heights will be changing food vendors from Sysco to Martin Bros. The Oakland Heights patio fence will be replaced and extended for useable space for the residents who wish to be outdoors. Administrator David Deemer has been a mentor for Admin in training students and first-time administrators at other area facilities. Incident summaries were reviewed, financials distributed and warrants submitted for payment. A motion was offered by Dan Tanksley, Jr., to pay warrants with a second from Rosa Schmidt. On roll call all ayes no nays motion carried. Oakland Heights is a 4-star facility with 38 skilled residents and 19 assisted living residents. A part-time cook is needed as well as a full-time dietary aide. A full-time CNA/CMA is needed for both day and night shift. Oakland Heights will be celebrating their 50th anniversary later this year.
